Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has organised the twelfth Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) General Assembly. The event took place from 16 July to 19 July 2018, in Enugu State, with support from the National Quality Infrastructure Project for Nigeria (NQIP) funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO.
AFRIMETS 2018 featured several Technical Committee meetings over the course of the four-day conference. Participants also benefited from training sessions and workshops on International Standards including the new OIML Certification System.
A highlight of the event was a site visit to Nigeria’s first metrology institute. UNIDO-NQIP supported the establishment of the National Metrology Institute with the aim of ensuring calibration of instruments and traceability of measurement in line with international standards.
