Study tour on linking tourism industry to productive activities

As part of the UNIDO project titled, “Linking the tourism industry to productive activities in the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic”, which is funded by the Russian Federation, a seven-day study tour was organized for the representatives of government, department of tourism, entrepreneurs in the field of tourism and agroprocessors. The study tour was to the Baikal lake, which holds around one-fifth of the world’s fresh surface water.

Over the course of the week, the participants had the opportunity to learn in depth the exciting world of tourism and it’s linkages to productive activities through experiencing the Baikal example production facilities. The Kyrgyz delegation met with the Baikal city administration and business circles, where discussions on possible cooperation were facilitated.

“I witnessed how tourism sector and productive activities fruitfully interact between each other. Issyk-Kul and Baikal lakes have a lot in common. On behalf of Issyk-Kul government let me thank UNIDO for this opportunity”, said Mr. D. Monoldorov, the authorized representative of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Issyk-Kul region.
